This Present Darkness/Piercing the Darkness

Who here has read or is reading Frank Peretti's brilliant Darkness Series? What are your thoughts on it? Favorite parts? If you're currently reading it, what chapter are you on? Who's your favorite character? Who's your favorite bad guy? Do you think he should finally write a 3rd Darkness book?

Wow! I didn't realize I was so far behind. I'm only on Chapter 15 when I thought I was up to like 18 or 19. It's really great. My favorite character has to be the old lady! I need to get reading!

I think you need to curl up with Comet and read them! Wow! They're great goody awesomeness!

Excerpt:

Unseen by Marshall, small wisps of sulfurous breath crept along the floor like slow water, along with an unheard scraping and scratching over the tiles.

Like a slimy black leech, the little demon clung to him, its taloned fingers entwining Marhsall's legs like parasitic tendrils, holding him back, poisoning his spirit. The yellow eyes bulged out of the gnarled face, watching him, boring into him.

Marhsall was feeling a deep and growing pain, and the little spirit knew it. This man was getting hard to hold down. As Marshall stood there in the big empty hall, the hurt, the love, the desperation began to build inside him; he could feel the tiniest remaining ember of fight still burning. He started for the door.

Move, Hogan, move! That's your daughter!

With each determined step, the demon was dragged along the floor behind him, its hands still clinging to him, a deeper rage and fury rising in its eyes and the sulfurous vapors chugging out of its nostrils. The wings spread in search of an anchor, any way to hold Marshall back, but they found none....

...The demon gripped him tighter and began to climb and slither upward. Marshall felt the first pangs of despair as he stood there alone.

That makes me way too sad!! I'm reading Present Darkness for the second time and will continue on to Piercing the Darkness for the second time as well. I LOVE LOVE LOVE them!!!

So I'm on chapter 26. I have so many favorite parts!! ahhh...one I just read last night though...

"Shrieks! Thunder! Fangs bared to bite! The demons exploded from the walls, corners, every nook of the room and like arrows went for Marshall's heart.

A blinding flash! Then another, then another! The whitest hot light traced brilliant fiery arcs, a searing edge that cut through the flock of evil spirits like a scythe. Parts of demons tumbled into nothingness; other demons imploded and vanished in instantaneous billows of red smoke. Waves of spirits still poured down upon the one lone man who stood there in reasonless terror, but suddenly this man was surrounded by four heavenly warriours robed in glorious light, their crystalline wings unfurled like a canopy over their charge, their swords blurring into waving, swirling sheets of brilliance.

...And then, almost as suddenly as it had begun, it was over. No demon remained; none had escaped."

Frank Peretti is a GENIUS!

I think Guilo is one of my favorite "good guys" because he wants to fight so bad at any moment. The other is Armoth because he sounds amazing and I hope angels really have cool names like that. haha! My favorite "bad guy" that I love to hate is Carmen because there are so many women just like her in real life. Also Prof. Langstrat because she gives psychology such a horrible name.

Ok...stopping...getting a little carried away.

I just finished This Present Darkness. LOVED it! The ending was phenomenal!!!!

Also, Blue Like Jazz is good. Really helped me with how to look at relationships with people, particularly the unsaved.

I agree with you Summer, it's 'cause Carmen is frustratingly realistic!

Exactly!!! UUUGGGGHHHHH!!!! yeah, I think I've met her before actually. lol!

Anyway, I just finished This Present Darkness again...found a new favorite part that I'd forgotten about...

From the buildings, streets, alleys, sewers, lakes, ponds, vehicles, rooms, closets, nooks, crannies, trees, thickets, and every other imaginable hiding place, flaming stars shot into the air.
The Host of Heaven!

OH MAN!!!!!!! If that don't make a sista wanna fight...
